Other services for schools

Other services, regardless of whether Takoha is employed to tutor Kapa Haka in your school, include:

  • arranging a marae experience, including learning about powhiri protocols, sharing kai, etc - as a one-off activity. Cost to be negotiated depending on time, teaching needed before the visit, the koha to the host school, the number of children, etc
  • helping with uniform needs for Kapa Haka
  • a contact for poi-making services

For all services:

  • All rates are exclusive of GST
  • Schools will be invoiced weekly (after every session)
  • All packages and services are flexible and can be negotiated.
  • Groups can be any size up to approx 60

Tips from our experience:

  • It is difficult to tutor Kapa Haka at the end of the day when children are tired so it is advisable to structure in practices during school hours if possible.
  • Kapa Haka is intensive, and hard work. It requires commitment from schools to support tutors. "Dropping the children off" to Kapa Haka practice doesn't work very well in our experience. It is appreciated if one or two staff can stay to help with supervision. You know the children best.
  • Kapa Haka tutoring, like all teaching, requires a great deal of planning, preparation, administration, and communication. These are all factored into the times in the different packages above.
